I have been working in the photography business as a photo editor for more than 20 years. For a very long time, my job as an editor was the reason why I never felt inclined to take pictures myself. The fact that I was surrounded by really good photographs all day long, discouraged me to try it myself as the results would most certainly be meager compared to the professional images I dealt with on a daily basis.
However, by editing photos over such a long time, I got to know exactly what makes a good image with regards to lighting, composition, colors, etc. I need to mention that in all these years I never dealt with food photography. In fact, I once turned down a job in a food image library as I thought it would be incredibly boring.
I taught myself food styling and food photography with every single recipe that I posted on my blog. You know what they say: If you want to become good at something, you gotta do it often. I take pride in my food photos. My style has attracted attention. My recipes and photographs have been published in local and international magazines and I now do food photography on corporate assignments.
My hobbies have become my new job: I work as a freelance food stylist, photographer and web designer. Please check my website www.anjaschwerin.com for my portfolio.
